 History Of Black Music Association 1978-1989:
In 1979, the Black Music Association (BMA) was organized and opened offices in Philadelphia with its purpose being to “Preserve, Protect and Perpetuate” the artistry of Black Music around the world.
 Mission Statement:
The Black Entertainment & Music Association (BEMA), is a not-for-profit professional trade organization dedicated to the advancement, enrichment, and recognition of Black Entertainment and Black Music in all its forms.
BEMA is committed to the development of educational, mentoring, support programs, networking opportunities and the creation of alliances that will assist our members in achieving their personal and professional goals.

 BEMA `2007Unsung Heros Award Series:
On Friday, November 9th, 7pm BEMA held its second Unsung Heroes Awards Event. The event was held in the SALON ROOM of the Liacouras Center during the October Gallery International Art Expo. The program was theatre style seating with presentations and entertainment including a VIP Reception afterwards at Philadelphia International Records.

BEMA will focus on supporting existing trade associations and schools, and networking with companies, organizations and professionals that deliver results to our members and associates.

The Essence of Entertainment concert series at the Dell East wraps up
its 2007 slate with The Dells, K-Ci & JoJo and Jaguar Wright on
Monday, August 20. The Dell East is located in Philly`s Fairmount Park
on Ridge Avenue and Huntingdon Drive, near 33rd Street. Show time
is 8:00 PM.

The City of Philadelphia, Department of Recreation`s Essence of Entertainment 2007 presents On Monday, August 6, the Essence of Entertainment concert series at the Dell East will present the legendary `Queen of Soul,` Aretha Franklin, along with R&B throwbacks Ray, Goodman & Brown. This performance marks Aretha Franklin`s Dell East debut. The Dell East is located in Philly`s historic Fairmount Park on Ridge Avenue and Huntingdon Drive, near 33rd Street. Show time is 8:00 PM.

BEMA honored some of the living legends, pioneers, and veterans of the Entertainment & Music industries. The event was an extraordinary moment of history taking place in Philadelphia, the new home for Rhythm & Blues music.
